Swedish duo Koop's new album Koop Islands is a fusion of short and sweet chill-out jazz vibes topped off with an exotic flavour. Group members Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson released their debut album - Koop - in 1997, and follow-up Waltz for Koop in 2001.
Their new album is worth the wait. Koop's tunes are a mix of warm acoustic instrumentation, electronics and 1930s swing. The result is stylishly modern but accessible to all. Opener Koop Island Blues is the best track, and sets the relaxing tone of the album.
Forces, Darling and The Moonbounce are mid-tempo, light jazzy tracks with exotic jungle drums, offering an adventurous and uplifting sensation. Those who fancy something experimental should not miss the closing track Drum Rhythm A (Music for Ballet Exercises).
The oddly-titled instrumental track combines electronic sampling and acoustic marimba - swinging you back and forth from past to present. Koop Islands is a relaxed, down-tempo affair. It's a massage for your brain, and keeps you swinging all the way through.
