Chui hops to top of local jockeys' table on Bunny

Trainer Alex Wong Yu-on provided the only real surprise for the day when the much-despised Captain Bunny won the Class Five event to put star apprentice Marco Chui Kwan-lai at the top of the local riders' list.

Chui, with 14 wins for the season, slipped past senior jockey Howard Cheng Yue-tin for the first time in what is promising to be a good career.

Which is probably more than anyone would ever have said for Captain Bunny, who had beaten a total of just 14 horses home in eight previous races, including last placings at four prior attempts over this 1,800m trip.

'He's not a good horse, nobody likes him,' Wong said.

'But his run was not bad over this course two starts ago when he finished sixth and then he drew wide at Happy Valley and was still only beaten by four lengths.

'He really wants 2,000 metres and maybe he can win another one but he's not too exciting.'

Little wonder the punting public sent him out at 35-1 but Chui will have a soft spot for the six-year-old.
