POLICE are hunting a gang of car thieves who specialise in stealing luxury models after staging minor road accidents. Detectives in the New Territories North Regional Crime Unit have set up a special investigation after two Mercedes-Benz cars together worth more than $3 million were hijacked in Sha Tin and Tuen Mun. Yesterday Kwok Chin-wing, 45, was driving to his Julimount Garden home at Hin Tai Street, Tai Wai, when his Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL was bumped from behind by a white Honda. When Mr Kwok got out to talk to the other driver, the driver and three others got out of the Honda. One of them was armed with what appeared to be a pistol. Mr Kwok was tied up and robbed of $30,000 in cash, a watch, a cellular phone, a pager and credit cards. The second victim was robbed as he was driving his Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL along Tuen Mun Highway near Tai Lam Chung at about 3 am on Tuesday. Tai Kam-fai, 41, was robbed of cash and valuables worth more than $100,000.
