Kekkaishi (TV series) Strange and powerful Ayakashi (monsters) roam the land. And they are all drawn to the powerful mystical power sealed deep beneath a Japanese high school. Two young Kekkaishis (barrier master) battle the monsters that seek to increase their power in this aptly titled anime Kekkaishi. Kekkaishi is based on an original manga by Tanabe Ierou. The anime production is done by Sunrise who have produced some of the greatest animes over the last 20 years, such as Big O, City Hunter, and Cowboy Bebop. Five hundred years ago, a wealthy lord was under constant attack from monsters who wanted his spiritual powers. These powers would increase their strength and allow them to take over the human world. A famous shaman, Tokimori Hazama, was called to help the lord and along with his two disciples managed to save the lord and Japan. Unfortunately, the lord died soon after. The lord and his power were buried deep in the ground beneath a place called Karasumori. Five hundred years later, the monsters are still after the power buried beneath the ground of what is now Karasumori High School. The descendants of Tokimori's two disciples, Sumimura and Yukimura, have guarded the ground ever since. The present generation of Kekkaishi are both young students. The main character is Yishimori Sumimura, a 14-year-old middle school boy who is the 22nd Sumimura Kekkaishi. Tokine Yukimura, who is 16, is the 22nd Yukimura Kekkaishi. The children are friends, but there is a feud between their grandparents - each side claims that they are the rightful successor to Tokimori Hazama's legacy. There is a Romeo and Juliet-like subplot as the two young Kekkaishi protect the school from monsters with their barrier magic. However, things get more intense as a new enemy, the evil Nine-Tailed Fox and his minions try to steal the power.
