AFTER running a story yesterday about Roberto Chard ''losing'' the front door for the La Placita restaurant, we got a call from the PR people from China Max - another soon-to-be opened restaurant at Times Square.
''We've not had trouble with shipping, but we've had one heck of a time with installation,'' Mary Justice Thomasson told us.
''Two days ago, a 1,600-kilogram crate came in from New Mexico with a two-metre by three-metre concrete sculpture of Buddha's Feet.'' She said it took 12 men to lift the crate and 20 to install it.

''Since our restaurant is only two floors down from Roberto's, if he gets really mad at the shippers, he can stamp on our Buddha's toes!''
