The Lunar New Year fireworks display will once again light up the night skies above Victoria Harbour, but this year the tradition will feature a contemporary twist.
Traditional Lunar New Year songs will be given a Canto-pop flavour and sung by actor-singer Andy Lau Tak-wah and teenage idols Twins.
'The melodies and lyrics are more or less the same as the traditional ones, but they will be arranged differently,' said Wilson Mao, chief executive officer of Pyro Magic Productions, the company in charge of this year's display.
There are elements specially suited to the Year of the Pig, too. The first song - Moment Musical composed by Franz Schubert - will be accompanied by fireworks in the shape of the Chinese character for 'luck' , a golden ingot and a pink pig's nose.
'These are the special highlights of 2007 and they will only appear in the first song. It's the quality, not quantity, that counts,' said Mr Mao.
As in previous years, three barges will be stationed in the harbour, letting off the fireworks.
