Demonbane (TV series) The world of H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos is the background setting for mecha anime series, Demonbane TV. This anime features giant, 20-storey-tall mechs, and duelling sorcerers and mages. Demonbane started out as a PC game by Nitro+ that was re-made for PS2. A sequel and prequel novel, a TV anime and a manga series were also created based on the game. The 12-episode TV series, which aired on the WOWOW network in Japan between May and August 2006, was produced by Nitro+. The story revolves around poor detective and magic school dropout Kurou Daijuuji, who lives in the city of Arkham. Kurou is so destitute that he sponges meals off a small church and is constantly made fun of by the Sister and the orphans that live there. One day he is hired by the head of the Hadou Financial group to find a grimoire, a mystical book infused with great magical power. While searching the city for the book, he gets involved in a gunfight between the evil minions of the Black Lodge and Al Azif, a young, lavender-haired girl dressed in a white Lolita-style dress. It turns out that Al Azif is the Necronomicom, the most powerful grimoire. But she is not complete, as there are pages missing from her. Outnumbered by dozens of rifles pointed at them, Al decides to make a pact with Kurou. By doing so, he is given the power to become a great mage. The Black Lodge, unable to fight against the magically empowered Kurou, summons a Deus Machina: a towering combat mecha. Faced with this new threat, Al scans the area for Deus Machina of their own that they can use. She finds the Demonbane, a secretly-built mecha of the Hadou Financial group. Equipped with a Deus Machina and the support of the Hadou Financial group, Kurou and Al hunt down the missing pages of the Necronomicom to make Al complete and stop the Black Lodge's evil schemes.
