Felix Coetzee waves as Silent Witness fans bid farewell to the great horse at Sha Tin yesterday. The super sprinter seemed primed and ready for action one final time when he and Coetzee went for a canter down the Sha Tin straight. Hong Kong's greatest racehorse was strong on the bit and looking for competition, but had to be content with some well-deserved adulation from an adoring crowd, many of whom came only for a last glimpse of their idol. Silent Witness retires with 18 wins - the first 17 in succession - and a raft of records, most notably that he's the highest prize money winner in Hong Kong history, having banked more than HK$62 million. His fame went way beyond Hong Kong's borders, as he was acknowledged as the world's leading turf sprinter for three years. Silent Witness will fly to Melbourne next month to retire alongside other racing greats at Living Legends, a new horse park close to Tullamarine International Airport.
