Students from  Hong Kong International School (HKIS) held a charity variety show, Aspiration 2007, last Friday night.

Students from King George V School, Li Po Chun United World College, Yew Chung International School of Hong Kong and Canadian International School of Hong Kong  also took part.

Every secondary school and university participating in  Orbis' Student Ambassador Campaign 2006-2007 is required to  organise a fund-raising event.

This year, the HKIS team  chose to stage a variety show at the  Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts' Drama Theatre.

The show featured singing, dancing, piano solos and a magic performance.

Although the programme  was launched  in 1999, this variety show was the first of its kind.

'We thought of different  activities - such as a bazaar  or a stall at the Lunar New Year flower market - to raise funds,' said Andrew Chung, leader of the HKIS team.

'But we wanted something that could raise even more  money.'

Although the HKIS team has won the Student Ambassadors award - given to the team that  raises the highest amount of money - for the past two years, Andrew's team did not feel pressure  from what their predecessors  had achieved.

'We  wanted to organise an event that  would publicise Orbis  and raise funds. We felt that what  was done in previous years did not receive enough attention from the public.

'This year we  wanted to raise funds from  a wider group of people.'

The five-person  team  had been preparing for the show since  November,  when their proposal  was approved by the school's faculty adviser.

Andrew  said the most challenging part of the process was  getting everyone together for the rehearsals.

'We were also not familiar with the technicalities. Organising this kind of event is not something we do every day,' he said.

Although the  students do not yet know how much money they've raised, they hope it will be at least HK$200,000.
