EXPERIMENTAL drama group is at the centre of a misunderstanding over its hopes to perform in the first International Arts Festival in Brussels.
Festival organisers are writing to Governor Chris Patten to confirm the troupe's programmes. The group is unlikely to attend after failing to get government funding of $2.8 million.
But the festival's artistic director, Frie Leysen, said she had not received notification from the Hong Kong Government that it would not support Zuni's application to perform.
''I cannot believe this. I am sure this will not happen. The Hong Kong Governor and the Minister for Culture [of Brussels] have promised to realise the performance,'' Ms Leysen said.
Yesterday, the Recreation and Culture Branch sent Zuni a letter, reiterating its rejection of the group's funding application.
The group had complained no clear reasons were given for the rejection and asked whether the Government was exercising censorship of their programme portraying Hong Kong in the past, present and future.
