A study by the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association has found that most primary students are not getting enough daily exercise.
The survey, which looked at the exercise habits of Primary Three to Six students in the Central and Western districts, revealed that only 18.3 per cent exercised for more than 30 minutes every day.
Of the 1,146 survey participants, the majority (85.5 per cent) spend more than an hour on homework and studies every day.
About 68 per cent spend the same amount of time surfing the internet or playing video games.
About 20 per cent mistakenly consider shopping equivalent to doing exercise.
A lack of exercise can lead to obesity. According to the Department of Health, one in five children in Hong Kong suffer from obesity and the number is increasing.
