Showing talent as well as beauty, former contestants of the Miss Hong Kong beauty pageant displayed more than 40 works of art as part of a fund-raising exhibition at Times Square yesterday.

The works - created by 18 members of the Wai Yin Association, a charity made up of former contestants and title-holders of the pageant - included watercolours, oils and calligraphy, as well as jewellery, photos and ceramics.

Organisers said the exhibition was part of the association's silver jubilee celebrations this year.

Loletta Chu Ling-ling, Miss Hong Kong in 1977 and honorary life president of the association, contributed photographs she took in Vietnam and the mainland to the exhibition, featuring spring flowers, a blooming lotus and a spray of plum blossoms.

'Photography turns people into thinkers - you have to take into account many factors such as the angle, light and colour before you press the shutter,' she said.

Ms Chu said she fell in love with the hobby in 1994 and still attends classes every week.
