High concept

With so much attention focused on international designers in Paris, Milan and New York, it is easy to forget the home-grown talent. Not so for local gal Jodie Cheung, who has opened J Concept, a boutique committed to promoting young designers and providing them with a platform to showcase their work. 'We believe that Hong Kong designers do not lag behind those overseas. We are just missing an appropriate and effective platform in Hong Kong for them to get fair exposure,' says Cheung. The store is decked out like an art gallery, with a minimalist interior and displays that include limited-edition clothes and accessories. Customers can check out party and evening wear from award-winning designers such as Cheung, Myanne Cheng, Tommy Cheung, Mo Kwok-wah (dress, HK$3,280, and belt, HK$1,168, both right), Ivon Yip, Tina Yip, Maria Mak and Nihil Wong, plus accessories from Jacqueline Chan and Eliza Wong.
