Question of the week: What is Hong Kong's greatest strength?

Hong Kong's greatest strength lies in its geographical location and culture of 'east meets west'. Hong Kong has access to innovative technology from Japan, advanced knowledge and skills from North America and western Europe, and traditional wisdom from ancient China. The freedom of trade facilitates international business and strengthens the economy. Moreover, both Chinese and English are official languages in Hong Kong. Hongkongers have the competitive edge of knowing the two most commonly used languages in the world. Hong Kong is going to grow into a vibrant metropolis if we take full advantage of our strengths.

It's our robustness. Despite the hardship we faced in the 1997 financial crisis, Hong Kong's economic basis remains strong, and its inherent qualities as a free and open city are as vital as ever. Our financial and banking systems have continued to be resilient, despite prolonged economic problems and the dramatic plunge in asset prices. Hongkongers have made a concerted effort to struggle with the economic downturn. We see where Hong Kong lags behind other economies and where our strengths lie. Hong Kong's advanced financial infrastructure is one of its greatest advantages as an international financial centre.
