Updated at 6.31pm: A security guard at a Tsuen Wan bank received two shots from a masked robber but tried to return fire before receiving a third shot - which caused him to fall - five years ago, a witness told the coroner on Monday.

Lui Kwok-ho, a witness to the 2001 bank robbery in which security guard Zafar Iqbal Khan died, also said he identified the robber's weapon as a police revolver by its brown-coloured grip.

The now 60-year-old man was a customer at Hang Seng Bank's Belvedere Garden branch on December 5 that year when the robbery occurred. He testified at the inquest into the death of Khan and three others on Monday.

Mr Lui told the Coroner's Court that the gunman, wearing a mask and red clothes, first shot at the security guard twice.

Despite being shot, the guard could still manage to move at this point. He attempted to point his shotgun at the masked man, who was climbing into the bank's teller counter area, the witness told the court.

Noticing his movement, the gunman returned to the guard, grabbed him with one hand and shot him for the third time in his shoulder. The security guard fell to the ground after receiving the shot, Mr Lui said.
