Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Frederick Ma Si-hang last night presented awards to the top three winners of the Fund Awards 2007 Hong Kong organised by the South China Morning Post and Standard & Poor's at a ceremony at the Island Shangri-La.
Baring Asset Management (Asia) was the winner in the three-year best-performing fund management group category, Fidelity Investment Management (Hong Kong) in the five-year category and JF Asset Management in the 10-year category.
Baring Asset Management (Hong Kong) managing director Gerry Ng, Fidelity chief investment officer Kathryn Matthews and JF's Terry Pan, the head of retail business, accepted the awards.
The event sponsor, AIA (Bermuda), was represented by vice-president and acting assistant general manager Thomas Lee Mun-nang.
The event was also attended by SCMP managing director Nancy Valiente, the newspaper's editor-in-chief Mark Clifford, and Standard & Poor's managing director John Bailey.
Mr Ma said the government would continue to support the growth of the fund industry in the city by means of last year's changes to abolish estate duty and exempt offshore funds from profit tax.
