Fittec International Group, whose profit fell 49 per cent in the six months to December 31 last year, expects to boost gross margins by increasing its production capacity and product range for high-density DVD player mainboards and liquid-crystal display television power supply boards.

'We are benefiting from strong growth in the LCD television market,' said executive director Zola Sun. 'Toshiba of Japan also gave us more orders to produce HD-DVD player mainboards as it is going to compete directly with Sony's Blu-ray DVD player this year.'

Fittec, an electronics manufacturing service provider with plants in Futian and Fuyong, Guangdong province, leased another 72,600 square metre plant in Guangdong's Shajing city in August last year.

'We can move most of our production lines to Shajing' before the end of the year, Ms Sun said. 'The new plant will boost our total capacity so that we can receive more orders.'

Toshiba launched its self-developed HD-DVD player in July last year to compete with Blu-ray.
