PolyU Community College to expand AD programme
Polytechnic University's Community College will expand its associate degree programme to 26 specialities, including language and culture and environmental science, when it moves into its new state-of-the-art campus in Hung Hom Bay this autumn. The new development, near Hung Hom train station, features 54 classrooms, two 'tomorrow's classrooms' equipped with round-the-room audio-visual projection walls, 23 teaching rooms and a computer centre.
HKU honorary degrees
Hong Kong University is to confer honorary degrees to four recipients next month. Doctor of Science degrees will be awarded to Professor Lu Yongxiang, a renowned fluid power transmission and control specialist, for his contribution to engineering, and to Professor Daniel Tsui Chee, a 1998 Nobel Laureate, for his contribution to physics. Dr Thomas Chan Sze-tong, chief executive of World Vision International, and Chief Secretary Rafael Hui Si-yan will be conferred Doctor of Social Sciences.
Pioneer professor rewarded
Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Dr Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine and Professor of Chemical Pathology at Chinese University, has been bestowed the 2006 Cheung Kong Achievement Award. Professor Lo's pioneering work in the study of extracellular DNA, RNA and nucleic acid in blood plasma for prenatal and cancer screening earned him second prize from the mainland's Ministry of Education and the Li Ka Shing Foundation. He was the only recipient from Hong Kong.
