Chinachem chief as mysterious in death as she was in life
Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum, Asia's richest woman, has died, leaving behind a fortune of HK$32.7 billion - and speculation about who or what will get the money.
Wang, the chairwoman of privately held property giant Chinachem, died on Tuesday at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, her personal assistant Ringo Wong said. Wang had been working at the company's offices in Tsim Sha Tsui until shortly before her death, he said.
Mr Wong would not say what caused Wang's death, or how long the 69-year-old had been in hospital. He would not comment on media reports that she had been suffering from terminal cancer.
'She had been working in the office over the past few weeks. She also made the decisions on investments in allotments of new shares, and the recent purchase of land in the New Territories was done under her instructions,' Mr Wong said.
He said funeral arrangements were being finalised and that details would be made available later.
