Aspiring soul and R&B singer-songwriter Khalil Fong Dai-tung is going upbeat to voice his concerns about global warming.
Already busy with promotional work and songwriting for other artists, Fong (right) is making time to produce his third album. 'It usually takes me a year to do the production for an album, but this time, I'll only have five to six months working on it,' said the 23-year-old after a shopping-mall promotion in Fanling last Sunday. 'It's a pretty tight schedule.'
Fong is adding a summer flavour to the album, which is due to be released in August. 'I want it to be more upbeat, more R&B than soul because my last album was more mellow.'
Born in Hawaii to a US-born professional drummer father and a Hong Kong-born mother, Fong grew up listening to 1950s music and, later, Stevie Wonder.
Fong said he writes songs about all kinds of love. 'I also write about loving yourself, family and the world. My next album will have a song about global warming.'
But the limited production budget has narrowed his vision. 'If I want to include music from a string orchestra, we just don't have the budget,' he said.
