ASIA Satellite Telecommunications Co (AsiaSat) says it has been granted a licence by the US Department of Commerce to export a satellite to China for launching in early 1995.

The licence award follows the White House decision on January 6 to lift bans on the export to China of communications satellites built by Martin Marietta Corp and Hughes Aircraft in the United States.

AsiaSat 2, manufactured by Martin Marietta Astro Space, will be launched into space by the Chinese Long March 2E rocket.
