A local contemporary dance show - particularly one with no established choreographers - pulling in full-house audiences in their 20s and 30s over two nights at a 500-seat venue would have been practically unheard of even a couple of years ago. So when this City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) offering managed to do just that during the weekend, one senses that changes are under way.
C'est la vie, C'est l'amour is the first production under what the company calls the New Wave Series, which aims to promote works by its younger, but by no means inexperienced, members. Noel Pong, Yang Yuntao and Dominic Wong have all been performing over the past five to 10 years, mainly as dancers. Here, they were given the chance to choreograph their own works lasting roughly 30 minutes each.
