What does a kitchen mean to you?
'A kitchen isn't only a place to prepare food. It's also a place for social gatherings. In the kitchen, some people prepare food, some talk, some watch TV or listen to music. We sell this lifestyle with German quality, Swiss precision and Italian design.'
Why these three?
'Germany is well known for quality - look at its cars and machinery. Swiss products are known for their precision - think of their watches and optical industries. When you think of design, you think of clothes and furniture from Italy. The Italians can draw a beautiful line with their eyes closed. When you have a combination of these three, it's first class.'
What are some of the key features in a first-class kitchen?
'Light is very important. Miele Kitchens' drawers have lights inside. The further you pull the drawer, the more light you get. Also, the light inside the drawer creates an atmosphere. And we should have different lighting in the kitchen. When you cook, you need more light. When you're done, you can turn down the light around the counter top and relax and talk with friends.'
