'On February 2 the council officers organised a press conference at which 10 external council members attended ... I saw them as vilifying and smearing Professor Morris and the institute's senior management ... I was very well aware that the council officers had HK$300,000 for press relations and [part of that money had been spent on the press conference].
'I thought that there wasn't very much that I could do to defend the honour of Professor Morris and the senior staff but I wanted to share the information that I knew with the staff and students of the institute.'
