Putonghua pop star Sherry Chang Hui-mei, better known as A-Mei, is planning a series of mini concerts with a Cantonese twist.
'I'm ready to make things happen. I hope to release my new album soon and I'm looking forward to my world tour,' Chang, 34, who has just signed with a new label, EMI.
Born in eastern Taiwan into a large aboriginal family, Chang - who has nine siblings - was exposed to tribal music from a young age.
Her career took off with the release of her 1996 debut, Sisters.
But her public profile took a battering when she controversially performed the Republic of China's national anthem at Chen Shui-bian's presidential inauguration in 2000. She was later banned from visiting or performing on the mainland. Later that year, the then 28-year-old Chang (right) decided to take a half-year break. She travelled to New York and made a full comeback in January 2001.
She was on the cover of Newsweek that year under the headline 'Back in the Spotlight' and was featured in the Asian Heroes issue of Time in 2002. Last year, she made her stage debut in Taiwanese musical, In Love With Carmen.
