Haute horloger Audemars Piguet is sponsoring the Queen ElizabethII Cup for the 9th consecutive year, and it has chosen its Royal Oak Offshore as the series to represent the event this year.
Wolfgang Sickenberg, chief executive of Audemars Piguet Hong Kong, said many elements influenced the decision. 'Last year we had a sumptuous Royal Oak with the 2326/2840 movement, so this time we looked into another collection to show the brand's variety,' he said.
A chronograph was featured last year so the company this year decided to feature a model that was completely different.
The watch is a day-date movement in an elegant pink gold case adorned with a black dial and it has a black crocodile leather strap with pink gold folding clasp.
It is based on a model made for the handover and the coincidence of this year being the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China is a 'good surprise'.
Twenty diamonds are set on 10 double diamond indexes on the 'grand tapestry' dial, and the work of art is finished with the automatic Calibre 2127/2827 movement with day/date/month and small seconds hand.
