A red-hot art scene isn't limited to Manhattan's gallery walls. Creative chefs and innovative architects transform once hum-drum museum cafes into exciting dining destinations with stellar wine lists.
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
MoMA's premier fine dining restaurant, the Modern, offers unparalleled views of the museum's sculpture garden and epicurean cuisine from executive chef Gabriel Kreuther. Choose an extravagant 1988 Grand Cru le Montrachet Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (US$2,900/HK$22,662) or a simple Californian Merlot (US$32) from the extensive wine list at lunch or with a fixed-price dinner. A separate bar room offers small tastes for sharing (US$12-US$19), with the dining room (above) charging about US$55 for lunch (two a la carte courses or fixed-price menu and dinner US$85-US$155, depending on the size of the fixed-price tasting menu).
Inside MoMA, choose from the casual Italian-themed Cafe 2 (various salads, soups, pasta US$10-US$20) or full-service Terrace 5 (fixed-price lunch US$29). Both are closed on Tuesdays.
