Ann Chiang named to take up new DAB post Ann Chiang Lai-wan was last night chosen to take up the newly created post of deputy secretary-general of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, contrary to earlier expectations that she might be named a vice-chairman. A vice-chairman's post, left vacant by Maria Tam Wai-chu's decision to step down, was taken by Greg So Kam-leung, a solicitor. Ms Tam was named as vice-chairman of the party's senate. Chairman Ma Lik and the other three vice-chairmen - Tam Yiu-chung, Ip Kwok-him and Lau Kong-wah - were all re-elected. The party's new Standing Committee features four new faces, all of whom come from professional and business backgrounds and are considered as rising stars in the party. They are: Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, chairman of the Young DAB, Starry Lee Wai-king, Chan Han-pan and Richard Au Yeung Si-kwok. While Kan Chi-ho was elected secretary-general, another deputy secretary-general is Tso Wong Man-yin - who was also tipped as another likely candidate for the party's vice-chairmanship. Legco president willing to go if selected for NPC position Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai said she was willing to step down from the Legislative Council presidency if selected as a member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee next year. Mrs Fan said she would not stand for the top post in Legco if elected a Standing Committee member, but it would be up to legislators to decide whether she should continue serving as Legco president before the term ends in July. Mrs Fan has been widely tipped as a successor to Standing Committee member Tsang Hin-chi, who has suggested to Beijing he will step down next year, and has praised Mrs Fan as having the right attributes for the post.
