Pop star and actor Edison Chen Koon-hei has turned his passion for music into a business venture by setting up his own record company.
Chen, who also runs a boutique called Juice, and fashion group Clot, is CEO of the new company Clot Media Division. 'We just started the record company recently, so there will be a lot that we need to do. I don't think I will be in any movies soon, not until after the summer at least.'
Asked if he was worried about competition from other artists, Chen said: 'It's good to have competition. I think the money an artist earns performing on stage should be used for making a business with things that interest you.'
Chen said it was a good idea to have an alternative income, especially since the local entertainment business was not doing so well. 'I think it is good to plan for the future,' he said.
Vancouver-born Chen has acted in more than 20 movies, including Andrew Lau Wai-keung's undercover police films Infernal Affairs and Initial D. In 2001, he was nominated for best new performer at the Hong Kong Films Awards for his role as Edison in Benny Chan Muk-sing's Gen-Y Cops, which also starred Stephen Fung Tak-lun and Sam Lee Chan-sum.
