Most clamshell phones feature a second display which provides easy access to information. This concept has now been adapted for portable computers.
In addition to its 12.1-inch main display, the Asus W5Fe now sports a 2.8-inch display on the top of the machine that supports a new feature in Windows Vista called Sideshow.
Acting as a mini 'window' to the W5Fe's main operating system, Sideshow is run on the second display using 1 GB of Flash memory.
By loading data into the Sideshow program, you get to use your laptop without having to boot it up.
So far, Sideshow consists of a media player, email and personal information manager, Solitaire, and functions that show nearby wireless networks and remaining battery life.
Reports suggest that more applications may be developed for Sideshow in the future, so its functionality might expand.
