An internet-based victim-support network is to begin operations in Hong Kong in May and hopes to work closely with the MTR Corporation, media and police to draw attention to missing persons and unsolved crimes.

The website will be launched by Singapore's Crime Library, which has been operating since 2001 in the island state and claims to have found 200 missing people and helped solve numerous crimes.

The Victims Support Centre in Hong Kong will work with the media to publicise the plight of those in need.

It will offer help in lodging police reports and dealing with government agencies as well as making referrals to global organisations.

The group will post appeals on websites such as YouTube, Google, Friendster, Yahoo and other internet portals popular in Hong Kong.

The organisation's services will be free, except for a nominal contribution to running costs, and it welcomes donations.
