Yours Truly, Angry Mob by Kaiser Chiefs
Kaiser Chiefs don't do anything new, but they manage to make rousing rock songs that appeal to indie and mainstream listeners. Their new album Yours Truly, Angry Mob is a follow-up to their hit debut Employment which sold three million copies.
The album is a collection of crowd-pleasing tunes. They will keep you singing along. The album's lyrics are darker and more socially conscious than those on the first album, with songs about street crime, fame and the media.
Opener Ruby starts the album on an upbeat note, with driving power chords and bouncy melodies.
Learnt My Lesson Well is a song of two parts. It begins with a piano-driven intro, followed by upbeat rock vibes with guitar riffs and drums. It would have been better with a smoother transition between the halves.
The band also shows their mellow side in rock ballad Try Your Best, featuring Ricky Wilson's drowsy vocals set to a melodic guitar line.
Kaiser Chiefs' sophomore effort has a broad appeal and classic Britpop influences (such as Blur, The Smiths). Even though they may never enter the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, they are guaranteed to get a good deal of airplay and money.
