Four deny HK$2.6m sales commission fraud
Two directors and two employees of an insurance brokerage swindled New York Life out of HK$2.6 million in sales commission, a court heard yesterday. Ho Ka-keung, 40, Chang Chi-chung, 27, Chiu Chi-shing, 23 and Ko Mei-yin, 39, denied in the District Court a joint charge of conspiracy to defraud by inducing New York Life to pay commission to a company, Sky Pacific, of which Ho and Chiu were the directors and shareholders, Chang an insurance broker and Ko a clerk. New York Life had agreed to pay Sky Pacific commission of up to 138 per cent on policies if Sky Pacific exceeded its sales target, the court heard. The four defendants allegedly inflated their sales by lying to 23 clients that their first year's premiums would be waived. This enabled them to collect more than HK$2.6 million in advance commission in 2003.
