Adapted from the popular 1977 children's book by Katherine Paterson, Bridge to Terabithia is a tender, profound and bittersweet coming-of-age tale that shows us how imagination can help us overcome life's tragedies.

Many children's movies avoid serious themes such as death. As a result, they risk being too shallow and simplistic.

But Bridge to Terabithia, directed by Gabor Csupo, manages to tug at the heartstrings of children and adults alike. It deals with the universal issues of first love and first loss - events that alter the course of your life.

The film is about two lonely children, the introverted Jess (Josh Hutcherson) and the spirited Leslie (AnnaSophia Robb). Together, they venture into the forest behind their homes and find a broken tree house.

Thanks to their creativity (Jess is a talented artist and Leslie is a gifted storyteller), they create a fairytale kingdom known as Terabithia.

The kingdom, where Jess and Leslie rule as king and queen, is a place where the two children share their dreams and plot against school bullies.

For the first time in their lives, the two children, both outsiders at school, find friendship and acceptance.
