Claymore (TV) Super female warriors kill shape-changing monsters called Yoma with a flick of their wrists in the new anime Claymore, currently being shown on Japan's NTV channel. This fantasy-horror anime is based on the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi. His previous work includes Undeadman and Angel Densetsu. The anime version is produced by Madhouse Production who have brought a number of hit anime shows to the small screen, including Bomberman, NANA and the highly acclaimed Tokyo Godfathers. This gruesome show is set in a fictitious medieval world where evil lurks in every corner and the Yoma feed on human organs. A secret organisation has created an elite group of highly trained super soldiers called Claymores to fight and exterminate monsters. These soldiers are a hybrid of humans and monsters, resulting in beings with stronger powers than the monsters. All Claymores are female, as apparently only they can survive the fusing process. The warriors become faster, stronger and more agile, and have accelerated healing powers and the ability to tell a true human from a monster which has changed to look like one. The Claymores are named after the weapon they carry: the giant claymore sword. They are recognisable by their silver hair and eyes. When a town suspects it has a monster in its midst, they send for a Claymore to kill the monster. If the town fails to pay for the service, they are blacklisted. Any future request for help is ignored and usually results in the death of the townspeople. But life is not easy for these super beings. Follow the story of one Claymore called Clare and her endless journey of blood and death.
