I REFER to the letter from Mr R. H. Lloyd (South China Morning Post, December 31) in which he complains of inadequate direction signs for Autotoll at the Cross Harbour Tunnel.
The sign inside the tunnel to which your correspondent refers is one of three advance signs which are located at the exit of the Kowloon-bound tube, two on the right hand side and one on the left.
Space limitations inside the tube restrict the size of these signs.
In addition, ''Autotoll Only'' signs have been mounted on top of the toll plaza canopy, above each Autotoll lane and the lanes have two sets of road markings at staggered intervals.
Advance signs have also been placed on either side of the Autotoll lanes at the entrance to the coned off area.
The coned off section of each lane has a gap to permit non-Autopass users to exit the lane after passing the advance signs and road markings, and before reaching the toll booth area, whilst traffic staff are deployed in the plaza to assist where necessary.
