HONG Kong First Division strugglers Football Club gave themselves a new year boost last night by picking up their first league point since October with a 0-0 draw against Rangers at Mongkok Stadium.
Club, who had won one and lost eight of their opening nine league games, remain bottom of the 10-team table on four points, one behind Voicelink, who occupy the second relegation spot.
In drawing their fourth successive game, eighth-placed Rangers moved on to eight points to stay three points clear of the relegation zone but having played one game more than Voicelink and Club.
Club's player-manager, Phil Russell, was delighted with a point, saying: ''We are only halfway through the season and will be looking to build on this performance.
''We have learned a lot in the first half of the season and hopefully can put it to good use in the second half.
''We always felt we had a chance in this match because we were very unlucky to lose 1-0 to Rangers in our first match of the season. It was always going to be a game of very few goals and a case of whoever could take the first chance would be the winners.'' Rangers came closest to scoring but Danny Lai Wing-cheong saw his fierce drive strike the crossbar.
