Joining the line-up of international restaurants in Festival Walk is Kushiyaki Sesson, a restaurant inspired by the famous Sesson yakitori eatery in Fukuoka - on the Japanese island of Kyushu - which was named after a renowned artist. Kushiyaki Sesson, which has a branch in Causeway Bay that opened late last year, is managed by the same company that looks after popular conveyor-belt sushi chain Itamae.
Kushiyaki has a cosy interior with an elongated, z-shaped sushi bar and several semi-private booths.
It also has high ceilings and is decorated with warm ivory and brown shades. A custom-made grill is the centrepiece and Takatsuki Toshiki, from the original Sesson, has been recruited as the executive chef.
The menu reflects a commitment to Japanese home-grown ingredients. One of the most popular dishes is homemade beancurd (HK$60), which uses special soy beans mixed with underground water imported from Japan. From the grill come Hokkaido fresh scallops (top right; HK$110), Saga beef (bottom right; HK$200 for 100 grams), the yakitori platter (bottom left; HK$134) and the chicken platter (HK$90), which includes kidneys, liver and skin.
To finish the meal, the mozzarella cheese ice cream (HK$35) is worth tasting. There's also tempura, sashimi, sushi and noodles, plus special organic chicken and pork dishes.
Kushiyaki Sesson is at unit L11-19A, Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong, tel: 2265 7712, and shop 281, 2/F, Excelsior Plaza, 24 East Point Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2890 2461. A Macau branch will open this year.
