A unique mechanism enables it to strike and remain water resistant Another highlight from Blancpain this year is the Leman Aqua Lung Minute Repeater, which introduces a watertight case featuring a patent-protected mechanism that enables it to strike hours, quarter and minutes while remaining water resistant to 100 metres. Minute repeater watches usually incorporate an external repeater slide to activate the striking mechanism, which is linked to the winding lever. When the slide is pushed, it exposes an opening along the side of the case, thereby allowing liquids to get inside. To overcome this problem, Blancpain has developed a gear system that connects the repeater slide and the repeater activator lever via two racks and a transmission shaft. The shaft is composed of two intermediate wheels and fitted with two O-ring gaskets, which keep the system watertight. The watch houses a Calibre351 which is self-winding and assembled by hand. The 40mm case comes in titanium or 5N red gold, both chosen for their acoustic properties. A solid case-back can be engraved.
