Plastic surgery? Fat chance for Kim

Actress Kim A-joong may not be a star outside her native South Korea but her lead role in 200 Pounds Beauty, a romantic comedy about plastic surgery, helped the movie become last year's biggest earner at the Korean box office.

Kim (near right) plays an overweight girl called Hanna who has a beautiful singing voice but because of her appearance is forced to sing backstage, performing lip sync vocals for Ammy, the star of the show.

After undergoing plastic surgery, Hanna is transformed into a beautiful woman but discovers it won't bring her the happiness she desires.

Though Kim is slender, she says she had weight problems at school.

'When I was at Form 4 to Form 6 [about 16 years old], I weighed 10kg more than I do now, but I lost the extra weight by exercising,' she said on a recent visit to
