Paddlers give it their all in yesterday's dragon boat races at Deep Water Bay. The Hong Kong Island Paddle Club proved unstoppable, completing a clean sweep of the mixed, men's and women's competition. Over 60 teams took part in the season's opening races.
The HKIPC women's team blew the competition out of the water, while their mixed crew proved their recent win at the International Boracay Dragon Boat Races in the Philippines was no fluke. The men's final was one of the closest in years, needing a video replay before the HKIPC men were named champions.
'I'm very happy,' said team captain Andy Cummings. 'Every year you have doubts, but more often than not you come through.' There's little time for yesterday's winners to bask in their success, however, as they will be back in training tomorrow for this weekend's races at the Shing Mun River in Sha Tin.
