Bogus marriages earn pair eight months, one year in jail

A mainland woman and a Hong Kong man were jailed yesterday for entering into bogus marriages, arranged by a middleman who has already been jailed. Mainlander Deng Qiuying, 43, who paid HK$8,000 for a bogus marriage with a Hong Kong man - so she could look for work in the city - was jailed for a year. Leung Kwok-keung, 49, who had been paid HK$3,000 to engage in a bogus marriage with another woman from the mainland, was sent to jail for eight months. Both marriages were arranged by middleman Dai Chun-yin, who was jailed for 28 months in February after he admitted having arranged 12 fake marriages.

Motorcyclist dies in crash

A motorcyclist died and another was seriously injured in crashes in Tuen Mun and North Point. Leung Kin-pak, 21, was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle while riding on Wong Chu Road, Tuen Mun, and hit a road barrier at 6.20am. A 51-year-old motorcyclist was in critical condition in Ruttonjee Hospital after he crashed into a truck on the Island Eastern Corridor, North Point, at 7.20am.

Fever patients in isolation

Nine patients in a ward for the severely mentally handicapped at Siu Lam Hospital have developed fever and upper respiratory tract symptoms since Tuesday last week. Five are being treated in isolation at the hospital and four have been transferred to the isolation ward of Tuen Mun Hospital. All were in stable condition.
