Greens back change to new fees

Four environmental groups haved urged legislators to back Audrey Eu Yuet-mee's amendment to a sewage charge increase plan that will effectively shorten a 10-year blanket rise to four years. Officials wanted a 10-year rise so 80 per cent of the HK$20 billion sewage treatment costs could be paid by 2016. Legislators discuss Ms Eu's amendment tomorrow. WWF, Green Sense, the Conservancy Association and the Green Student Council also were unhappy the government gave no commitment to a biological upgrade of sewage treatment.
