It's hard not to like Mika - he's infectiously kooky and funny. His debut album Life in Cartoon Motion will make you grin. Think Robbie Williams meets Freddie Mercury or the Scissor Sisters. Opener Grace Kelly is an upbeat song with bouncy melodies that perk you up instantly.

Love Today is another great track. The funky disco-pop number keeps you shimmying long after it's over, making you feel like the happiest person in the world.

Relax (Take it Easy) is another winner. The electro-pop beats will send you straight to the dance floor.

Hidden track Over My Shoulder is an unexpected treasure. The dramatic ballad, set to beautiful piano accompaniment, changes the album's pace and mood. It's a break from his relentless energy, and shows the quirky musician's more sensitive side.

Mika has an impressive vocal range and wonderful voice. He can sing exuberant disco pop numbers, as well as enchanting ballads, and only occasionally does his falsetto go too far.

Overall, Life in Cartoon Motion is a promising start for Mika. He should keep his edge but leave the mainstream pop songs (Any Other World and Happy Ending) to Ronan Keating.
