This is a fantastic album to chill out to. Late Night Tales is a compilation of laid-back cover versions.
Nouvelle Vague - new wave - is made up of musician-producers Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux. The French duo recreate and reinterpret each song in their own sexy style.
They choose songs that were brilliant to begin with and re-invent them, a formula that's almost guaranteed to succeed.
The album is a collection of 21 tunes from artists, including Charlie Rich, David Sylvian, Julie London and a host of French female crooners.
Most songs have a jazzy, loungey flair, such as And I Love Him (Shirley Horn) and You're My Thrill (Peggy Lee and the Sy Oliver Orchestra).
Urban Serenade (Avril), The Vespertine Park (Gavin Bryars) and Unless (The Pale Fountains) seem a little out of place due to their psychedelic themes.
