When an 11-year-old boy plunged to his death earlier this month, student suicide hit the headlines.
The boy, an only child, had been scolded by his mother for not handing in his homework on time. He left his mother a suicide note and took his own life.
He was an outstanding student who got along well with his classmates, according to his teachers.
It was the fifth student suicide this academic year. There is concern that parents are putting too much pressure on their children.
Wong Wan-hing, a primary school teacher, said some parents push their children in all aspects of school life.
'Parents have always been concerned about their children's academic performance. But now they emphasise all-round development and their children's schedule is packed,' said Mr Wong.
