THE ambience was paradise indeed when the ballroom of the Regent was transformed into a veritable Garden of Eden (complete with twittering of exotic birds) for the Hong Kong Cancer Fund's annual ball. Though the guests had on a lot more than Adam and Eve ever managed. In fact, it was the kind of occasion that gave an insight as to who keeps the designer jewellers of this town in business. So they came, they glittered and, more importantly, they spent. For the occasion raised nearly $6 million for the fund. Having dined from a tropically inspired menu, the guests - they included Christine Wong, James Tien, Sally Leung, Ian Marsh, Peter Edwards, Alice King, Paul Chow and Sir Ronald Grierson - then worked off the calories on the dance floor.
