Most people spend at least eight hours a day at work. Naturally, the work environment counts as an important part of the life of the working class. Some people may be happy with conditions, while some may wish for improvements. Classified Post hears the views of people from different sectors of the working world on the issue of the work environment.

'The staff at our workplace work in four separate offices, so it is hard to meet and talk to colleagues face to face. It would be good if all four offices could be combined in a single building. Getting along with colleagues is very important, otherwise work would be meaningless.' Sammy Wong, broadcasting

'My colleagues and I work in an open office, which means we don't have much privacy. That means some inconvenience when you are on the telephone. You could be disturbing the people around you. It would be nice if the office had partitions.' Shiei Ko, sales

'My office is in a superb office building, with access to malls and transport. Some of us even work out at nearby gyms at lunchtime. The environment allows you to really focus on your work. It would be great if our office, like its headquarters in Britain, had a cafeteria.' Franklin So, business consultancy

'Many of our female employees wear high-heeled shoes, and these can create quite a clatter in the office. I'd suggest carpets. A work environment should be healthy and cheering. However, many of us sit far from windows where we could enjoy a spot of sunlight. The centralised air-conditioning system is bad when people have coughs and colds.' Birdie Ho, education
