A mainland visitor who poured a flammable solvent on himself and threatened to set himself on fire in the office of Sing Tao Daily News was subdued by police after a brief standoff yesterday. The man, 36, entered the office in Shau Kei Wan at about 9am saying he wanted to see a senior executive. When his request was refused, the man drew out a bottle of flammable liquid and poured it on himself. He then produced a cigarette lighter and a cutter. Police overpowered the man, who was sent to Eastern Hospital for a check of his mental state.
