'I thought it was the toe of Willie for a while,' the American country music star said in an interview to promote this little book of lessons from life on the road. 'I had to do a little research on what all that meant.' The Tao of Willie - A Guide to the Happiness in Your Heart wasn't the singer-songwriter's idea, and he gives all the credit to fellow Texan, actor (The Sopranos) and golf buddy Turk Pipkin for writing it down, jokes and all. 'What do a record executive and a sperm have in common? They both have a million-to-one chance of becoming a human being.' The Tao of Willie is amusing and odd and fascinating, a pocket version if you like of the 1989 Willie: An Autobiography. A dedicated smoker who doesn't like alcohol or prescription drugs, Nelson accepts that 'God must have made those seeds and stems for a reason'. And for those who don't agree with him about marijuana, 'there's a nice chapter on golf right after this one' - golf being 'a hard game that just gets harder'. Nelson, now in his 70s, has a laid-back, take-it-easy approach and, 'if you're going to get p***ed, get p***ed about something important', he says.
